My thanks to the Thornton family for the use of the photos and newsclips from my mother’s years at Walter Thornton’s Model Agency in the 1930s and 1940s. Thanks also to The New York Daily News for permission to use “The Correct Thing” columns mentioned in the chapter, Manhattan Stories, and reproduced in “The Correct Thing” Visual Essay online. The Addams Family photos are part of the inheritance of my father’s intellectual rights and properties. All other photos or newsclips or other materials are either from the personal albums my grandmother, Alma Wilds, kept for my mother, Lucille Wilds (then Levy), from which she removed all labels and dates, or from those of my father David Levy, including the mementos he kept for himself from his years in the Radio Division in the Department of Treasury 1944-1946, and from War Bond Drives he helped before and after his wartime service while at Young & Rubicam.
